Welcome to the PRA PDF Print E-mail

SparrowhawkWelcome to the homepage of the Popular Rotorcraft Association. Based in Mentone, Indiana, USA at the PRA Mentone Airport, PRA was started in 1962 by Igor Bensen, the inventor of the famous Bensen Gyrocopter. Since then it has grown to include rotorcraft of all sorts with members in over 80 countries. We are a group of people who love homebuilt rotorcraft -- gyroplanes and helicopters that they build and fly themselves. These rotorcraft enthusiasts get together to exchange ideas, information, help one another, promote safety and help with flight training.

PRA Cruise Information PDF Print E-mail

It's a Party and you are invited!

Planning begins for PRA cruise with a Survey

Help us plan this adventure by clicking the button.

PRA Cruse

The PRA is beginning planning for a cruise in 2011 and wants your input.

With the goal of building community in the sport, the PRA wants to invite association members and other aviators to be a part of an on-the-seas adventure. The event will be an opportunity for pilots and their families to visit with each other and share an adventure of a lifetime.

During the cruise, the PRA will also sponsor forums and aviation-focused get-togethers with participants. But the PRA wants to plan this with the membership as well as for the membership. Basic questions about how long of a cruise, what time of year, and even where to visit are important decisions that need to be made with you input. Two big possibilities are an early summer cruise to Alaska or late winter cruise to the Caribbean. To help gather everyone's thoughts, the PRA has put together a survey that can be easily taken on the internet. To offer your Input, please Click the Survey button below. IF you don't have internet access, please call Jennifer at PRA Headquarters and she will collect your thoughts on the plan. We look forward to your help in making this adventure something we can all enjoy!

PRA Incident Response Team (IRT) Initiated

Jim Mayfield has coordinated the formation of the PRA Incident Response Team.  The "IRT" is intended as a resource of gyroplane investigators to assist the FAA, NTSB and other authorities in the investigation of gyroplane accidents.  Traditionally, the NTSB, FAA and other investigatory organizations may not have adequate expertise in gyroplanes to identify the true root causes of gyroplane accidents.  The formation of this team is hoped to provide more constructive information to help avoid similar future gyroplane accidents.  Read more to see the list of volunteer team members.  In the event of an accident in your local area, please provide this information to the responsible authorities if possible - or inform Jim Mayfield or the PRA immediately.
